Julia Eckel was born in Washington DC, the daughter of WW I Major Edwin C. Eckel, a geologist with the US Geological Survey & amp; then chief geologist of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Her father was the foremost author on US cement, lime, & amp; plaster in the early 20th-century & amp; an active photographer. His photographs still remain at the US Geological Survey. Julia lived & amp; He worked in New York City & amp; Washington DC. When her father died in 1941, Julia was unmarried & amp; living with her mother Julia on Decatur Street in Washington DC.
