Self-Portraits Italian Nella Marchesini 1901-1953

Italian Nella Marchesini’s (1901-1953) self-portraits became progressively more expressive & delicate throughout the 1930s. The artist & her husband, painter Ugo Malvano, worked in Italy under the repressive policies of Mussolini, when they retreated to the hills around Turin. During WW II, her self-portraits became stronger once again.
